Ovako and Splay One launch the podcast “Stålverket” to attract more engineers and build pride among employees
The steel manufacturer Ovako wants to attract more engineers and is launching the podcast format Stålverket, developed and produced by Splay One. The podcast will increase interest in career opportunities within the steel industry and showcase the innovative environment at the company.
Stålverket will offer listeners insights into what it’s like to work at high-tech steel plants and highlight the advantages of living and working in smaller towns in Sweden.
The titles of the first episodes, such as ”9 Hot Jobs in Steel Right Now!” and ”Move to Hofors – what?”, give a glimpse of what the target audience can expect. The podcast will explore a range of topics, from sustainability issues like how the steel industry can reduce its carbon emissions by using hydrogen, to personal stories from young engineers who have chosen to leave the big city to live closer to their workplaces.
Each episode combines interviews with Ovako’s experts and employees with reports directly from the steel plant. Exciting facts about steel as a material will also be highlighted, including how steel is used in some of society’s most common products.
The fact that podcast listening in Sweden is growing like crazy, not least in Ovako’s target group consisting of many people from the 90s, contributed to the decision to invest in its own podcast format.
– Working at Ovako is like a hidden gem. We offer an innovative work environment, fantastic development opportunities, and a strong focus on sustainability. Through the podcast, we want to communicate these values while giving insight into the unique life of an engineer at our steel plants, says Saiva Zalkalns, Director and Head of Group Communications at Ovako.
Format development and podcast production is done in collaboration with Splay One, which also helps with the launch and marketing on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, among others.
– When we interviewed engineers and engineering students at the start of the project about their career dreams, the most common answer was ”I want to make a difference for the planet and for society”. At Ovako they can really do it, so we want to convey that with this podcast, says Åsa Rydén Antonsson, Senior Client Manager at Splay One.
