YouTube and Splay One initiate project to support female gamers
YouTube and Splay One launch an initiative called ”Female Gaming Voices”, a program designed to recognize, support and highlight female gaming talent on the platform.
Around twenty female streamers from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland have been given a unique opportunity to establish themselves through various formats on YouTube.
”Through this initiative, we want to help create the conditions for more women in gaming, and of course also inspire and encourage women across the Nordics to follow their dreams”, says David Hellberg, Head of Network Nordics at Splay One.
Participants in Female Gaming Voices are offered workshops and personal coaching that will help them to develop their presence on YouTube. Through a six-month period, the profiles will be equipped with tools and skills that will not only lead to development of their content, the expectation is also that they will increase their businesses through their passion for gaming.
”At YouTube, we believe in giving everyone a voice. We are proud to partner with Splay One in Female Gaming Voices. For a long time women have an important part of the gaming world and female creators on YouTube have been inspiring and entertaining people on the platform for over 19 years. We hope that the initiative will inspire more women to take the step into the gaming world, and we look forward to see their perspective getting even more space on YouTube”, says Michelle Kadir, Head of YouTube Sweden.
Since 2013, Splay One has supported creators in the development of content on various social platforms, with an extra focus on YouTube. This initiative marks a strategic investment to address and reduce the gap within the gaming industry, where women have historically been underrepresented.
”It feels awesome that YouTube wants to invest in female gamers in the Nordics! I think it’s fun to have a close dialogue with YouTube and Splay One and that I receive coaching over a long period. It’s a great opportunity for me as a streamer to reach a wider audience and establish myself on such a large platform”, says Lin ”SWE_Beforewefall” Andersson, one of the creators in the project.
The initiative will remind of the importance of representation and equality in all areas – including entertainment and gaming. Despite the many different backgrounds and experiences of the participants, they all share a common goal: to create engaging and genuine content for their followers.
